Venus Small

December 18, 1959 - February 16, 2022

Venus Anne (Weizer) Small died on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, she was 62.

Venus was born on December 18, 1959, in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her two daughters, Emerald Small of Troutman, North Carolina, and Aurora Reed, husband Jeremiah Reed, and cherished granddaughter, Avery Reed in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Venus is also survived by the father of her children Michael Joseph Small of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, her half-brother John MacIntyre of Dubois, Pennsylvania, and her half-sister Victoria Eckert of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, as well as 12 cousins and step-cousins, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Venus was preceded in death by her father Harry Herman Weizer, Jr of Burlington, New Jersey (1985), and her mother Mary Rita Weizer of Norristown, Pennsylvania (2000), as well as her brother Harry Herman Weizer III of Burlington, New Jersey (2018).

Venus loved art, fashion, gift-giving, laughing, and music! Art, laughing, and rock music were her therapy. She was an incredibly talented artist - she would often use charcoal and acrylics to create exquisite works of art which she was quite modest about. She was a talented graphic designer for the Times Herald Newspaper in Norristown, Pennsylvania for several years. As for fashion, she had her own unique style (including partial dreadlocks in her hair). She loved turquoise jewelry, mascara, and tie-dye.

Venus did not care about people’s opinions. She honored her uniqueness and many admired her for it. Gift-giving was how she articulated love and affection. Christmas time was her favorite time of the year to spend quality time with her daughters, son-in-law, Jeremiah, and granddaughter, “princess” Avery. Playing board games was always fun - especially Scrabble - She was such a wordsmith. Cooking together and making gingerbread houses until we laughed so hard we couldn’t breathe and our cheeks hurt are among our most cherished memories.

For Venus, spending time with her friends and family was always the highlight of her days. In 2015, she was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and later that year completed training to serve as a Stephen Minister. From 2019 to 2021, she completed the Kairos Spiritual Director program that teaches the art of spiritual kinship and companioning. A devotion to deep listening, walking alongside others and recognizing God in her own life and the lives of those around her. She was dedicated to sharing her spirituality and helping others realize the love of Jesus.

It was the desire of Venus to be cremated. A celebration of life will occur at a future date by planting a tree and sprinkling her ashes. The date, time, and location are yet to be determined. If you have expressed interest in attending, the family will be in touch about the details. The family is grateful for the condolences. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Salvation Army at https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/rehabilitation/. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. Proverb 31: 25
