Robert William Schmidt

October 07, 1949 - April 08, 2022

Robert W. Schmidt (Bob), 72, of Webster, NY passed away on April 8, 2022.

Bob was born on October 7, 1949 in Sao Paolo, Brazil to George and Irene. He graduated from Park Ridge High School in New Jersey in 1967 and went on to earn a degree in Political Science from the University of Rochester. After serving as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War, he completed his educational journey with an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester Graduate School of Management (Simon School of Business). He spent his career working in Finance, enjoying a long tenure with both Chase Bank and Empire Valuation Consultants. He retired in 2011.

Bob was a proud father to his four children, Eric, Tim, Mark, and Meghan. He often said they were his greatest accomplishment. A roller coaster enthusiast, Bob especially delighted in wooden coasters and enjoyed many trips with his wife, Ellen, and the roller coaster club they belonged to. Bob valued experiences and adventure and seized the opportunity to travel the world with Ellen. He always provided detailed tales of the food enjoyed on their trips. Bob was a sports aficionado with a special dedication to basketball and hockey (Go Rangers!). With pride, he loved to tell the tale of the 1966 New Jersey State Basketball Championships when he and his brother, Michael, were high school teammates winning the title in a close game.

Affectionately known as “Bob NewHeart,” he received a heart transplant at Strong Memorial Hospital in 2012, giving him a new lease on life - a gift that he embraced fully and never took for granted. When not traveling, Bob spent his days soaking up the beautiful view from his lakeside home and spoiling his pug, Pi. He lived every day with joy, gratitude, and appreciation for life while fiercely loving his wife and their life together.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Ellen; his sons, Eric, Timothy (Rachael), and Mark; daughter, Meghan (David); grandchildren, Alayna, Grace, and Dylan; brother, Michael (Linda), and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene, sister, Marilyn, and grandson, Adam.

A celebration of life will be held on April 30th with close friends and family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
