Emily Catherine Schmidt

August 29, 1922 - June 26, 2022

Emily Schmidt, 99, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2022, at her home in Sacred Heart Senior Living, Center Valley, PA.

Emily is survived by her children John and his wife Joanne; Joe and his wife, Mel; Ann and her husband Lee Slotkin; Bob and his wife Eileen; Richard and his wife Nancy; and Tom and his wife Toni. She was also the proud mother of 17 surviving grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John, her parents, Anton and Leontina Wagner, her son James, her brothers Anthony, Herman, and Richard Wagner, her sisters Joan and Josephine Wagner, and her grandsons James and David.
She was born in the family farmhouse on Elephant Road, Perkasie, PA on August 29, 1922. She attended the local one-room school house until she dropped out to help work on the farm during the Great Depression. She eventually received her high school GED when she was in her 50’s.

During World War II, she worked in the SKF ball bearing factory in Philadelphia. After she married in 1947, she and her husband moved to Upper Black Eddy, PA, where she lived for over 50 years in the house they built with their own hands. She then lived in Lancaster and Willow Grove and more recently, Center Valley. Wherever she went, she settled into her new life and sought out and connected with friends.

Her greatest passion was her family. She also treasured her friends and kept them close throughout the years. For her entire adult life, she was actively involved with and volunteered at the Catholic Church, first at Saint John the Baptist, Ottsville, PA, and later at Saint David’s, Willow Grove, PA.

She was a master knitter, baker, and gardener and enjoyed a good game of pinochle, a good book, and a challenging puzzle.

She will live in our hearts forever.

Family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 10:15am to 11:00am.  followed by Emily's Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Joh the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 4050 Durham Road, Ottsville PA  18942.  Interment will immediately follow at St. John Cemetery, 453 Haycock Run Road, Haycock PA  18951.    In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa, 654 Ferry Road, Doylestown PA  18901 in memory of Emily.
