Robert R. "Sonny" Wagner

April 28, 1933 - October 28, 2020

Mr. Robert R. "Sonny" Wagner, age 87, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 28, 1933 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Raymond "Dick" and Pauline "Polly" (Willis) Wagner. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where he attended school. Sonny was inducted into the United States Air Force on December 31, 1952 and was honorably discharged as Airman Third Class on September 24, 1953. Sonny was united in marriage to Lavern Peelman on May 22, 1954 in Patriot, Indiana. Sonny and Lavern shared over 66 years of marriage together until his death. Sonny was a union carpenter for Union Local #2 of Cincinnati, Ohio for 57 years and also did upholstery work for 40 years. He was a member of the Vevay Church of Christ and was a lifelong resident of Switzerland County. Sonny was a former member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185. Sonny enjoyed keeping a meticulous lawn and home in the heart of Vevay, Indiana. He also enjoyed working, camping, fishing and sitting on his porch and by his fireplace. He was also an avid Cincinnati Red's fan. Sonny passed away at 8:05 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana. 

Sonny will be missed by his wife, Lavern (Peelman) Wagner of Vevay, IN; his daughter, Kathy J. (Wagner) Covington of Vevay, IN; his sons, Danny Wagner and his wife, Cindi of Vevay, IN and David Wagner and his wife, Christina of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren, Dalton Wagner and his companion, Destiny Brown, Owen Wagner and his companion, Bree McAlister, Jeremy Jackson and his wife, Shannon, Cody Covington and his wife, Jennifer, Kacey Sexton and her husband, Tim, and Justin Wagner and his wife, Abby; his great-grandchildren, Nathan Jackson, Lauren Jackson, Payton Covington, Aiden Covington, Jacob Covington, Gavin Wagner, Madelyn Wagner, Mason Wagner, Kennedy Sexton and Adalynn Sexton; his brother, Wayne Wagner and his wife, Penny of Rising Sun, IN; his sister, Sharon Smith and her companion, Kelly of Rising Sun, IN and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond "Dick" and Pauline "Polly" (Willis) Wagner; his son-in-law, Dale Robert Covington; his infant-brother, Raymond Leon Wagner and his sisters, Wanda Washnock, Pamela Courter, Irene Walcott, Virginia Devers, Patricia Courter and Ruby Murphy. 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required along with social distancing. Friends may call 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2020, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
