Mary Lynne Dennis

September 08, 1936 - September 27, 2025

Mary Lynne Dennis was born on September 8, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of James Harold Deewall and Virginia (Selover) Deewall. She grew up with her older sister, Judith “Judy” Ann McCully, and the two shared a lifetime of love and friendship.

Mary Lynne met the love of her life, David Arthur Dennis, in the eighth grade. The two became high school sweethearts, and after graduating from El Dorado High School in 1954, Mary Lynne attended Kansas State University, where she was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. On June 15, 1958, she and David were married, beginning a 67-year partnership filled with devotion, family, and adventure.

Mary Lynne’s calling to teach began early, spending summers in Kansas giving swim lessons. That passion grew into a lifelong career in education, where she taught elementary and preschool for many years—guiding children with patience, kindness, and a true love of learning. Beyond the classroom, she was deeply involved in her community, enjoying book clubs, social gatherings, golf leagues, and service through local organizations.

She and David lived all over the United States with their family—from Kansas to Tennessee, Illinois, Oregon, California, and Missouri—before retiring in Lincoln, California, where they spent many happy years. Mary Lynne’s joyful and optimistic spirit naturally drew people to her, creating many lasting friendships.

Above all, Mary Lynne’s greatest joy was her family. She delighted in supporting her children and grandchildren, attending sporting events, graduations, and countless milestones. Her home was always a place of warmth and good food, and she created traditions that will be cherished for generations to come.

Mary Lynne is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, David Dennis; children Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Amy; ten grandchildren—Noah, Katie, Megan, Trevor, Allison, Jessica, Alexa, Daniel, Morgan, and Ryan; and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Annie. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Melissa “Missy” Davies, her parents, and her sister, Judy.

Mary Lynne will be remembered for her deep love of family, her vibrant community spirit, her joy of teaching, and the countless lives she touched.
