Gilbert was born in Barstow, California on May 10, 1963, where he met and married the love of his life and partner in all things, Terry. They spent the next 37 joyful years investing fully and completely in their family. Gilbert was a family man, through and through. From coaching t-ball, standing at the sidelines of every soccer game, fishing at the lake, and family vacations to Disneyland, he spent every opportunity making lasting memories. A source of great joy over the last six years was in becoming the most caring, goofy, and beloved “ompa” to his grandchildren. He lived his saying, “family first” to the fullest.
Gilbert was king of the barbecue, a die-hard Raiders fan, and a skillful jack-of-all trades - whether it was helping fix a car, creating a winch system to get his boat on top of his jeep, or learning the craft of woodburning. His family and friends will remember him as always being ready with a joke and a mischievous smile.
To all who knew him, Gilbert found the balance between strength and sweetness. He was a fighter, the kind that beat cancer and overcame a double-lung transplant, as well as fighting for what was right and for those he loved. That inner strength, however, always culminated with kindness toward others, sweetness toward his kids and grandkids, and abundant selfless love.
Gilbert lives on in the hearts of family and friends he loved and those who love him.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in the peace of Christ.
