Nidia Gandarilla
Nick Madrid, Jr. passed away August 21, 2022, with his family by his side. Nick was born April 2, 1939, in Solomonsville, AZ, to parents Nicolas C. Madrid and Elisa G. Madrid.
He is survived by his son’s Nick (Maria), James, Sr. (Leticia), and Sean (Denise). Siblings Angie Morales, and Robert Madrid. 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Nicolas Chavez Madrid and his mother, Elisa Gomez Madrid. Son Eric Daniels Madrid, sisters Beatrice Espinosa, Lydia Mendoza and Amy Hansen.
Nick graduated from Morenci High School in 1957, where he lettered in football. After graduation, he then went to play football at Eastern Jr. College in Thatcher, AZ. In 1958, he joined the Navy where he won numerous awards including honor man of his company in recruit training. He served until 1962. He lived most of his life in Mesa, AZ, where he worked as an Ironworker foreman before moving back to Tucson where he lived the rest of his years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Valley Christian Church, 5968 E. Fairmount Street, Tucson, AZ 85712, at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow at the church.
