Diane K. Farrell
Diane Kay Farrell of Claremont, CA passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022, with her daughter, Michele, by her side.
Diane Farrell was born in Bellflower on June 13th, 1946, Samuel and Vivian Myers. She graduated from Brooklyn Guernsey Malcom High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She served for 7 years from 1966 – 1974 and this was her proudest accomplishment. As a Second-Class Yeoman, she was recognized for her work as a WAVE with a Certificate of Merit awarded by Admiral John McCain. After serving proudly for 7 years, she retired, as she put it, when she got too big for her uniform at 6 months pregnant. Most of her civil career was as an administrative assistant, retiring from Visiting Nurses Association after 12 years.
Diane loved spending time with her daughter, raising a pint with her friends at the local pub, cheering on the US Women’s and Men’s soccer teams and playing games. She was a proud Hospice volunteer of 20 years. Nothing brought more joy to Diane then helping and being there for others. One of Michele’s favorite memories is while waiting for lab work, Diane saw a woman struggling to walk when Diane jumped up, cane and all, and helped that woman to her destination. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, Diane loved making cinnamon rolls for her neighbors and would deliver them. Diane’s generosity, humor and willingness to listen were her greatest gifts.
She is survived by her only child, Michele Farrell and her youngest sister, Stacy Myers Heinen and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Farrell, her parents Samuel and Vivian Myers, and her sisters, Sammie Huntington, Mary Lacaeyse, and Carol Vecera.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 7th, 2023, at 1 pm, at the Black Watch Pub in Upland. This will be a joint celebration with a close friend, Christine O’Grady, who passed at the same time, on the same day. In lieu of flowers, Diane’s family request donations be made in her name to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, a cause Diane felt strongly about.
