George Hoon Mancuso, 53, passed away on December 28, 2022, in Tucson, AZ. George was born in Korea, was adopted by the Mancuso family, and brought to live in New York around the age of 13. Since he was a child, George survived many life's obstacles with his post-polio, but never gave up, till his last breath; he was a perfect model of a self-sufficient, smart, responsible, motivated, brave, strong, and caring person.
George moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona. Once he graduated, he decided to make Tucson his home. He also worked for the University of Arizona for a few years.
He loved to take long road trips with his two dogs, Sassy and Yogi. He visited many National Forests and almost every state with his two loving companions or as he would call them, "his kids". Their absolute favorite place to visit was the Dog Beach in San Diego, California. He would take Sassy and Yogi there for their birthdays in December and January. Spring of 2021 was very difficult for George. Sassy got very ill and there was nothing that could be done. Losing Sassy, left Yogi and George with a great emptiness. This was when Yogi became his Emotional Support Animal. From that day on, George and Yogi became inseparable.
Five years ago, George started working as a math teacher at Tucson Preparatory School. He was a very strict and caring teacher. He loved helping and seeing his students learn. Graduation was one of his favorite times. He enjoyed it so much, from taking graduation pictures of students to seeing them walk on stage to pick up their diplomas. George had such a big heart and loved his students so much that he would even give up his lunch to hungry students.
He is survived by his loyal and faithful companion Yogi, Mancuso family, best friends Eva and Gerardo, students, and Tucson Preparatory School’s family.
