Corliss Ann Gumer Serber

December 12, 1946 - January 24, 2023

Corliss Ann Gumer Serber of Yucaipa, California passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2023 from cancer that had only been detected a short seven weeks prior. Born on December 12, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to parents Hyman "Hy" and Alma Gumer, she loved being an older sister to her brothers Alan (Jeanette) Gumer of Salem, Oregon and Jeffrey "Jeff" Gumer of Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Her husband of 41 years, Ron Serber, was the love of her life until his sudden passing in March 2009. They had one child, daughter Tamara "Tami" Serber Wall and two grandchildren, Ava (age 14) and Aaron (age 12) of Rohnert Park, California. Corliss treasured being mom and grandma.

One of her lifelong friends was her sister in law, Barbara Willens of Banning, California, who Corliss called the sister she never had and one of her best friends.  Gratefully, she leaves behind many friends of different facets of her life, some upwards of sixty years.

A native of Southern California, Corliss graduated from Westchester High School and UCLA. She was a public school teacher at the elementary level in Santa Ana and at both the elementary and high school levels in San Bernardino, ending her career at San Andreas High School where she still maintained close friendships from colleagues there. She loved running into prior students in the community after they had graduated and after she had retired.  Retirement meant freedom to Corliss and she used that time for friends, art, golfing and playing bridge.

After Ron's passing, Corliss found another sense of community in The Center for Spiritual Living, where she eventually became a Spiritual Practitioner.  Just as with teaching, she treasured the mentoring and support of people truly working on personal growth. She had just been granted Emeritus status the day before her passing. Please know you can view her last presentation here:
