John David Porter III, “David,” of San Ramon, CA, died in Vallejo on February 17 at the age of 69.
He was born in Oklahoma City to John and Jackie Porter. In the early 70s, he married Valerie Cooper and they had one daughter, Jennifer. He attended DeVry Institute, studying electronics. He loved electronics and worked in that field all of his adult life – in Los Angeles, Tucson, Northern California, most recently, at Curtis Instruments.
Dave loved music. As a kid he took piano lessons, then, as a teenager, he taught himself to play electric guitar, playing with skill and passion his entire life. He had a collection of guitars and vast knowledge of rock music and rock bands. He also loved poetry and could recite many poems from memory. In the 70s he and his partner, Tekla, were active with the Renaissance Faire, dressing in Olde English garb and entertaining the common folk.
He leaves behind his father, John, 2 siblings, Kimberly (and wife, Dulci) and Michael (wife Susan). He also leaves a daughter, Jennifer, and a grandson, George, both in Phoenix. David’s mother, Jackie, to whom he was deeply bonded, died 2 years ago and his brother, James, in 1980. His wife of more than ten years, Lilla, died 11 years ago.
