"JUDY A. DOW
Born 1949, San Jose, CA Deceased September 24, 2021 residing in Pismo Beach, CA
Judy began her life in San Jose, CA with her beloved mother Mary and father, James Fairbanks. She shared her happy early childhood with two sisters, Susan and Carol. She also established a close enduring relationship with her cousin, Julie Watson Vieira.
She is survived by her sister Carol Haag (Al Garcia), cousin Julie Watson Vieira (Bruce), one niece and two nephews. Also surviving Judy are second cousins and countless friends.
Graduating from Del Mar High School in San Jose, where she became an energetic cheerleader and pep club member. In adulthood she always looked forward to planning the next reunion with her high school close friends, including Karen Matthews and Barry Reynolds."
"Judy struggled with various health issues for most of her adult life, surviving breast cancer as a relatively young woman. At the end of her life she succumbed to recurring cancer. She courageously carried on a battle with cancer for many years until the last ten days of her life, when the quality care from Neighbor Hospice was greatly appreciated.
A friend of 45 years called her -Miss Sunshine - because she always saw the bright sunny side even when enduring multiple surgeries and all forms of grueling cancer treatments, while continuing to work. Who else would bring guacamole and chips to the staff working in doctors offices?
Judy ultimately fell on very hard times when she became unable to continue working due to cancer surgery and then the arrival of the pandemic. Everyone who knew her admired her strong will, determination, and optimistic attitude despite unbeatable obstacles. She viewed each higher hurdle in her life as just another challenge.
Her lifespan was spent taking care of others. If she had $20, she would spend $10 on buying ice cream treats for friends or strangers. Judy was a very hard-working, kind-hearted soul. She will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched.
At her request, there are no services planned. Donations in her honor may be made to 5 Cities Homeless Coalition, P.O. Box 558, Grover Beach, CA 93483 or a charity of your choice."
