"Thomas R. Gillen, of Costa Mesa, California, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022. He
was 67.
Tom was born April 1, 1954, and lived in Jersey City until moving to Kansas City, Kansas in
1985. He was a graduate of Henry Snyder High School. He was employed by the Colgate-
Palmolive Company for more than 20 years, serving as a Shop Steward in the Jersey City
plant. He moved with Colgate to Kansas City, and was ultimately elected President of the
United Steel Workers Union local, a title he held until the company closed the Kansas City plant.
Most recently, he moved to California to be with his brother Richy."
"Tom was preceded in death by his parents Martin V. Gillen and Claire W. Gillen, and his brother Richard. Surviving are son TJ (Miranda) and beloved new grandson Vincent Thomas Gillen.
Tom is also survived by brothers Marty (Lauren), Terry (Ruthie), and sister Margy, as well as
many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles."
"Tom will be remembered as an easy-going guy with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later time."
