Jerry Lyle McCloud

November 29, 1944 - July 23, 2023

In Memoriam: Jerry Lyle McCloud (November 29, 1944 - July 23, 2023)

Jerry Lyle McCloud, a beloved resident of Yucaipa, CA, peacefully passed away in his hometown on July 23, 2023. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 29, 1944, to his parents Lyle K. McCloud and Mary Ellen McCloud. As a pre-teen, his family relocated to Orange County, CA, where he spent his formative years. Jerry attended Bolsa Grande High School and later pursued his passion for science by attending Orange Coast College, Long Beach, and Fullerton State Colleges.  He enjoyed playing the trumpet in school and singing in the choir.

In February 1966, Jerry proudly enlisted in the US Army, serving his country until February 1969. During his service, he courageously served a tour in the Vietnam War as a Medic and later served as a lab tech. For his exceptional dedication and valor, he was awarded the Bronze Star, The Army Commendation Medal, and the Purple Heart.

Following his military service, Jerry joined the United States Postal Service, where he diligently worked as a letter carrier for nearly four decades. Known as "Flash" by his colleagues, he earned a reputation for completing his mail route with remarkable speed.

Jerry's life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Helen Jean (Jeanie), during their high school church youth group. They tied the knot in 1964 and embarked on an incredible journey together, celebrating 59 years of marriage in August 2023. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Joanna and Jill, whom they lovingly raised. Additionally, they selflessly embraced the responsibility of raising their grandson, Andrew.

Jerry had a deep affection for the desert and, in 1979, he relocated his family from Santa Ana, CA, to Cathedral City, CA, where they lived until 2013. Always curious and adventurous, Jerry was fond of road trips, exploring new places, visiting museums, theme parks, and National Parks.

Fondly known as "The Professor" among friends and family, Jerry possessed a vast and diverse knowledge base and was a master of trivia games. His thirst for knowledge and love of learning were remarkable traits that endeared him to those around him.

Jerry leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted wife Jeanie, their daughters Jill McCloud and Joanna Christiansen, and son-in-law Douglas Christiansen Jr. He will also be deeply missed by his grandsons Andrew McCloud, Adam McCloud, Elijah Christiansen, Daniel Christiansen, and Joseph Christiansen, as well as his granddaughter Maribella Jones and great-grandson Arion Madison. In addition, Jerry is survived by his brother Thomas McCloud, nephews Dylan Bennett and Sean McCloud, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Janice Collins and neice Andrea Collins. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Connie Sue McCloud.

As we bid farewell to Jerry Lyle McCloud, we honor the incredible life he lived and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew and loved him. May his memory be cherished forever in our hearts.  A Memorial service will be held at Calimesa Worship Center on August 26th at 11am 940 2nd St, Calimesa, CA 92320.
