Chad Frederick Gray

March 20, 1981 - February 20, 2021

Gray, Chad Frederick was born March 20, 1981 and died tragically february 20, 2021 due to an accidental drowning while spear fishing at Saguaro Lake in Arizona.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as he was known for his generosity and kindness always putting others' needs before his own. He was the son of Cynthia L. (Cullen) Pilson and Dean R. Gray and stepmother Linda Gray. He is survived by his younger brother Nathan R. Gray of Illinois, whom was his best friend and confidant and stepbrothers Michael and Eric Chandler of Massachusetts.

Chad was a wonderful father to his daughter Natasha whom he adored and who made his eyes light up everytime he saw her, and his son Mateo whom he also adored.  He loved being a stepfather to Trevor whom he enjoyed playing sports with. His children and stepson meant everything to him.  He leaves behind his x-wife and friend Natalia Payne, grandparents Frederick and Anita Cullen and Dorothy Scherenberger along with uncles; Timothy Cullen, Darrell Gray (Maribeth), Danny Gray (Joanne), Darren Gray, many cousins, great aunts and uncles and many friends. Chad was preceded in death by his grandfather Charles D. Gray whom he cherished and his uncle, Benjamin Gray.

Chad served in the Marines from 2002-2006 serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
By trade Chad was a painter but also worked for Casa D'Amore Family Care where he took a personal interest in the boys that resided there and would often take them under his wing, sometimes taking them to meet his mom, go camping, fishing, or just out for a meal.  Chad loved animals and always had a dog or two that you would see either beside him or not far behind.  Chad believed that when you died you were just asleep and that there would be a resurrection of the dead to a paradise here on earth.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to an animal shelter or animal rescue would be much appreciated.

Angel A I was one of the boys from casa D’amore. Im just learning of your passing today chad, you were a great man, i hope you know the effects you had on some of us who came from abusive and toxic homes I now have two sons and i will follow in your footsteps teach them to be respectful and kind. David Bercume I knew Chad, when I was under the state of Arizona and in the department of Child Safety... I was at 2 of the casa d'amore homes, that chad worked at and it was the older boys home and the original house of casa D'Amore homes. I first found out chad had drowned at saguaro national lake which I believe that's where he had the accident, I heard he had covid at the time, and was sick... I cried alot when i heard Chad died, as he is one of the father figures in my life... I pray chad is in heaven, and I am deeply sorry for those who loved chad and miss him.

Rob Matewsky Chad was a good friend of mine in High School. We had a lot of awesome memories together . Rides to the beech , camping , working out , hiking the mountain. It was always an adventure with Chad and he always had your back and new how to push you harder and bring out the better in you. Chad was a good man but he suffered mentally and held a lot in. I think I can speak for myself and lot of my friends who new Chad . We all did a lot of crazy stuff , we wouldn’t of wanted to see our own children do . He made me and I am sure some others to take a good look in the mirror . Life is a gift and can’t take it for granted. Anyone who new Chad well will have a little piece of his spirit to n them for the rest of their lives that’s just how he was . Just wholesome person to know and a good friend of may people. God bless his children and family

Joseph Palma I have been friends with Chad since middle school. I remember jumping the fence of the house he first moved into to play basketball at harelson. Chad had the heart of a lion and boy he did not like to lose! We would have many battles on the court over the years. Memories I will keep with me forever. Chad was definitely a guy you wanted on your team. A great and loyal friend who would do anything for his friends and family. Someone you would want to go to war with, Literally and figuratively. Which is why he made such a great soldier. I love the nickname his fellow marines gave him “Ruh Roh” always moving fast and occasionally breaking a few things on his way lol. I could have never sold the houses I had without Chad. He painted and did the maintenance on basically all the houses I sold over the years. My condolences go out to his family, he would truly light up when talking about Natasha, Trevor and Mateo. I know that they meant the world to him. I loved Chad Gray and will miss him dearly. RIP my brother.
