Courage - Sacrifice - Generosity - Kindness

In 1968, Jose ventured from Argentina with a green card, one-way ticket to LA, and $100 for the promise of a better life in the US. He lived in roach and mice-infested housing near downtown LA, not speaking english, but he worked hard and saved.  In 1969 he moved to Pasadena in a nice little home near PCC and was able to bring his wife Susy and son Hector over.

Over the years Jose worked as a machinist by day (usually overtime), and then as a janitor by night while Susy was a seamstress, house cleaner, and mother. They lived simply and worked hard, eventually realizing the American dream of owning their own home. They provided generously for their son over the years, eventually paying and supporting him in  college.  His generosity extended to many charities he supported over the years, especially for Veterans.

Jose and Susy's home was always filled with friends from the old country and the new country for the holidays, where there were feasts of asado, empanadas, gnocchis and many desserts.  Towards the end of the evening, Jose would kick into high gear and make everyone laugh with many tales and jokes.

Jose was kind to everyone he met, especially dogs (we found a pocket full of dog biscuits when we gathered his clothes at the hospital before he came home for hospice). He was honest and respectful in all aspects of his life.  He was constantly cracking jokes and recalling funny events from his childhood.  His face was brightest and happiest when his granddaughters came to visit.

When asked how it was going, he would say: "If I complain, God should punish me".

God honored him with his wish of passing away in his own home, peacefully, and surrounded by his family.

We will miss you and your smile, sense of humor, and listening ear.

Please enjoy this video in memory of Jose
