Jared Michael Britt

January 16, 1991 - December 15, 2023

January 16, 1991 – December 15, 2023

Affectionately known as “Bear” from childhood by his mother and father, Jared quickly became an adorable bundle of joy, and the name followed him into adulthood.  Jared, to many, was a fun, loving, competitive, and generous person. Born the middle of three offspring and the only boy, he quickly embraced the affection of his older sister Jessica who was his second Mom, ‘partner in mischief’, and attentive protector throughout his life.  At age ten, he traded in his youngest child status to welcome baby sister Jordan Danielle who he adored and watched over-- becoming the big brother like no other. The three, Jessica, Jared, and Jordan, referred to as ‘Heartbeats’ by their mom, were separated geographically, but inseparable in spirit.

As an avid sports player who excelled in soccer from childhood through adulthood, Jared played proficiently across the field but was uncontested as a defender.  He was a starting player throughout his high school Varsity career earning him a full scholarship to play in college. From the age of 12, he was selected to participate in several highly competitive US Soccer Youth Programs including the Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP) and the Southern regional travel team that played across Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas.

Although it is widely known that Jared was accomplished in sports, it is less known that he was equally talented in the arts and social sciences.  His intellect was vast, yet he was very unpretentious and moved to his unique drumbeat. He frequently enjoyed reading, writing (prose and poetry), painting on canvas, and learning popular tunes to play on the piano. He would effortlessly hold in-depth conversations on myriad topics including sports, history, geography, and politics.

Jared enthusiastically and fearlessly engaged with people from all walks of life.  His appetite to learn about and ultimately to learn from other cultures grew through family trips abroad and comraderies with his teammates as he pursued his love of sports.  Jared’s favored activities, however, were family gatherings at home. He unapologetically expressed his passion for and devotion to his family, often sharing generous ‘Bear’ hugs – even with the family pets.  His physical absence on earth leaves a gaping void for those who loved him and held him close.

Jared’s light remains in the hearts of those he leaves behind where his memory will live forever: his father and mother James Britt and Valerie Pinckney Britt of Atlanta, GA; his two cherished and dearly loved sisters Jessica Britt-Thomas of Augusta, GA, and Jordan Danielle Britt of Los Angeles, CA; extended family Aimee Britt-Thomas (sister-in-law) of Augusta, GA, and Kristy Britt (stepmother); and a host of cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles worldwide. A very special note to Kofi: Your lifelong friendship with Jared since pre-school was one that he cherished most.
