Marilyn Denise Coulter

May 30, 1960 – November 12, 2024

Marilyn Coulter, age 64, passed away on November 12, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on May 30, 1960, in Oakland, California, to Anna Mae Batts at Highland Hospital.

Marilyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved watching court and cop shows, a passion she shared with those closest to her. Known for her warmth and kindness, Marilyn had friends who stood by her side for more than 60 years, and she cherished each of them dearly. To her, those lifelong friendships were truly a gift, and she always made sure her friends knew how much she loved them.

Marilyn worked in housekeeping for much of her life, a role that she took great pride in, always bringing a sense of dedication to everything she did. Her family and friends will remember her for her generous spirit, her quiet strength, and her unwavering support.

She is survived by her daughter, Shanelle Gilder, and her grandson, De'Anthony Burgess, both of whom brought her immense joy. Marilyn also leaves behind her lifelong friends and sisters, Rita Carroll-Reese, and Carmen Carroll, who were by her side through thick and thin for over 60 years.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mae Batts; her brother, Arthur Allen; her cousin, Violet McGhee; and her god-sister, Sylvia Curry.

A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, Marilyn's memory will live on in the hearts of her many loved ones. She was deeply cherished and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service celebrating Marilyn’s life will be held on a date to be determined in Oakland, Ca. All are welcome to attend and share in the remembrance of her remarkable life.

To my mother:
You were my best friend, you were my rock, my confidant, and my biggest cheerleader. You were a comedian and you understood me like no one else. I love you so much that it’s hard to put into words. You always said it was US and our little family. I will forever miss you and never forget the memories we made along the way. I love you!
