NAME DEATH INFORMATION

Lyn Newman of Kearny, Arizona passed away in Gilbert, Arizona on Saturday, November 2nd.

BACKGROUND WORK HISTORY

Lyn was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 25th, 1948 to Gordon R. Graves Sr and Doris Graves. She attended Hayden High School graduating in May of 1966 and Central Arizona College earning an Associate Degree in General Studies graduating in December of 2003.

Throughout her life, Lyn had several different jobs...she worked as a beautician, helper for a drilling company, office staff for a construction company, dispatcher for a gravel/concrete company, realtor, amongst others...but at the end of the day, she loved being in the kitchen.  Baking, cooking, and catering for others is where she found the most joy...bringing happiness to others by way of their tummies.  People could not get enough of her famous carrot cake, three layers tall, with homemade frosting.  She retired from the State of Arizona in 2014. In retirement, she volunteered at the Kearny Hand Me Up store.

OTHER INTERESTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Lyn's soul was as sweet as the goodies she loved baking (except for the one Thanksgiving pumpkin pie...no mom, we will never forget the time you forgot the sugar! LOL). She enjoyed movies, particularly Hallmark movies and anything with John Wayne. You could often find her listening to audio books, spicier the better!  She was also fond of tarot cards, playing games, and spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.  Those closest to Lyn would describe her humor; clever and witty, she could make you laugh at the least expected moment...proof is that she passed on the Day of the Dead making sure we have a holiday to celebrate her. Well played, Lyn, well played.

Lyn's greatest accomplishment was being a mother. She was a loving, caring, dedicated, and selfless mom to Carl. As a single mother, her priority throughout her life was always her son. At an early age, she treated him as an adult by including him in major life decisions.  She would lay the options on the table, and they would openly discuss the pros and cons.  Ultimately, they would land on the decision together.

SURVIVORS

She is survived by her son Carl Newman, daughter-in-law Dara Newman, granddaughters Kira Newman, Leila Newman, and Kyleigh Lasseter, brother John Graves, sister-in-law Andrea Graves, nephews Gordon Graves (aka Vern), and Thomas Graves, nieces Elizabeth Mink, and Traci Graves, great nephews Jacob Mink, and Austin Mink, great nieces Ryann Graves, Jessica Khamvongsa, Courtney Mink, and Brooke Graves. She was predeceased by her father Gordon R Graves Sr, mother Doris Graves, brother Gordon Graves, and nephew Matthew Graves.

SERVICES

A small, family-only, celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 7th in Flagstaff, AZ.
