James Peter Colell

January 08, 1950 - September 22, 2024

Jim lost his battle with lung cancer on Sept. 22, 2024. He died peacefully at home with family and friends by his side. Our family has lost a Dad and grandfather, a brother and brother in law, many friends and my dear husband. We miss him everyday.
Jim was born in Exeter New Hampshire on Jan. 8, 1950 to Ann Gallager and James P. Colell Sr. He grew up in Portsmouth and Dover NH where he attended parochial elementary and high schools. He granduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in History and Politcal Science.
Jim worked for the division of welfare for the State of New Hampshire after graduating from college. He also worked evenings at various restaurants. After moving to Portland Oregon in 1976 Jim managed The Beef and Brew restaurant and later worked in sales representing various restaurant epuipment wholesale firms. This led to his long standing career with Dexter-Russel Inc. located in Southbridge Ma. He recieved many outstanding achievements with Dexter which included an all expense paid trip anywhere in the world. He chose to take his family to Disney World.
Jim was not just an avid golfer. His love for the game became his passion. When he wasn't on the course he practiced for countless hours. When we first met Jim maintained a 4 handicap and worked hard throughout his life to improve his game on every level. He was a lefty and proud of it.
Jim and I met when we both joined a coed softball team in 1980. We were married in 1984 and adopted our two children in 1991 and 1995. He was a wonderful father and husband. I am blessed to have spent the last 40 years as we navigated through work, family life, travel, trials and tribulations. We were a team. We miss him everyday. Thank you Jim for our wonderful life together.
Jim is survived by his wife Sarah, daughter Cat Hicks, Prospect, PA and son, Chris Colell,
sister Cindy Spinelli and brother in law Bill Spinelli. Elise Spinelli, niece and Justin Spinelli, nephew.
