Julia Irene Meppen Farris

July 02, 1943 - November 10, 2024

Beaverton - Julia “Julie” Meppen Farris, 81, of Beaverton, Oregon, left us on November 10th, 2024, after a four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s she passed peacefully in her sleep. A Celebration of Life is being planned in the spring of 2025 to allow our family to be together and then we will join her with her husband (our father) in a vault at Fir Lawn Cemetery in Hillsboro Oregon.

She was born July 2, 1943, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Leonard W. Meppen and Emma Peterson Meppen. She was raised in Idaho Falls and then moved to Salt Lake City. She met her husband John Farris (d. 2010) and they married in 1966.  They had two children, Michael and Cynthia, and moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1977.  Julie worked for the Beaverton School District and spent most of her career at Portland Community College.  She retired from PCC in 2006 and spent her time volunteering for Hillsboro Library and Orenco Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her family and her dog Fletch. Julie lived her life as a kind and caring mother and wife who always gave her time and love to help others in her family and community.  She was also a proud grandmother of her five grandchildren. She will be missed by all of us and we are blessed that she can leave behind the disease that took her and be with our family that has passed before her.

Julie was preceded in death by her husband John, an infant granddaughter, Jessica, her brothers Douglas Arthur & Lynn Brent and her parents, Leonard and Emma Meppen. She is survived by her two children, Michael Farris (Christine) of Beaverton, Oregon and Cynthia Kroop (Marc) of Danville, California; five grandchildren, Jasmine and Jordan Farris, Olivia, Liam and Nicholas Kroop; and two sisters, Gloria Faris (d. Bill) of Denver, Colorado; and Elaine George (Mike) of North Salt Lake, Utah, and several nieces and nephews.
