Harry "Len" Wheat

February 03, 1953 - November 14, 2024

Harry Leonard Wheat, affectionately known as "Len," passed away in Sarasota, Florida, on November 14th, 2024. He was born in Pensacola, Florida, and was 71 years old.

Len made the move to Sarasota in 1969, where he attended Riverview High School and met his wife of 53 years, Melody. He began his custom home-building business, Wheat Contracting, Inc., Len Wheat Custom Homes, in Sarasota County. He considered his greatest accomplishment the relationship he had with Jesus Christ and his family and friends.

When he wasn't working, Len could be found enjoying nature by going fishing and hunting, motorcycling, playing darts, and spending time with his grandsons.

Len is preceded in death by his son, Corey Len Wheat; his parents, Harry and Audrey Wheat; his brother-in-law, Denny, and his wife, Debbie Wells; and his sister-in-law, Cheryl "Sissy" Wells Hackenbracht.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Melody; daughter, Tiffani Joy Cartee, and her husband, Dustin Cartee; grandchildren, Mckinley Leonard, Joshua Wade, and Ryder Corey Cartee; siblings, Tony Wheat and his wife, Jessica, Christopher Wheat and his wife, Jackie, Richard Wheat and his wife, Roberta; brothers-in-law, Richard Hackenbracht, Marty Wells, and Mitch Wells and his wife, Kathy; sisters-in-law, M'Liss Ferlita and Audrey Barbare; daughter-in-law, Kirsten Gamel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be a Celebration Service on December 6th, 2024, at 4:00 pm at "Go Church," 590 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33953.

Melody and the family would like to thank those who extended prayers and words of life over Len and his family.

"No need to contract this one, Len. All the work's been done. You stayed the race and won the prize—Jesus custom-built this home for you."

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions toward medical costs may be made through Venmo at @MelodyWheat or by check to Melody Wheat at Maloney Funeral Home, 2401 Cattlemen Rd, Sarasota, FL 34232.
