Obituary for Kathleen Lewis
Kathleen Lewis, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 68.
Born on June 12, 1956, to John and Edith Mulvihill, Kathleen was the apple of her father’s eye. He would often bounce her on his knee and tell her she could be anything she wanted to be. Those words would stay with her throughout her life and inspire her to reach for the stars. Kathleen went on to defy expectations, becoming a trailblazer in a field dominated by men—mathematics. After graduating from Chicopee High School in 1974, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Westfield State College in 1978, thus beginning her career as a math teacher. She worked tirelessly as a teacher at Quaboag Regional High School and Westover Job Corps, making a difference in the lives of many young people.
Kathy's journey took another meaningful turn in 1984 when she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She shifted her focus from teaching math to teaching others the life-saving truths she came to know and love from the Bible. Her passion for helping others and sharing her faith touched countless lives, and her kindness, generosity, and wisdom were evident to all who knew her.
After retiring from Mass Mutual in 2012, Kathy moved to Florida, where she embraced a new chapter of her life. She quickly made many new friends and became an active part of her community. As she enjoyed the warmth of the Sunshine State, she never lost the teacher in her. She continued to tutor young ones, offering support and guidance in mathematics, just as she had done throughout her career. Her generosity and willingness to lend a hand were felt deeply by those she mentored, as she remained a source of encouragement and wisdom to many.
Kathy was also an incredible cook, known for her delicious meals that brought people together. Whether it was a family gathering or a simple dinner with friends, her culinary skills were always on display, and her food was a source of comfort and joy. Her kitchen was often filled with laughter, as she lovingly prepared meals for her loved ones, making sure everyone felt cared for and cherished.
She was known for her quick wit, creativity, and remarkable talent. Whether she was painting a beautiful mural on the living room wall or fixing a flat tire, she could do it all. Her door was always open, and her heart was always willing to listen. She was a generous, thoughtful, and loving person who made a profound impact on everyone she met. Truly beautiful inside and out, she left an indelible mark on this world.
Kathleen’s memory will be cherished by her daughter, Angela Perez, and her husband, Patrick. She is also survived by her son, Jason Lewis, and his wife, Lindsay, along with her grandchildren Isabella, Jonah, and Madelyn, as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended spiritual family in Massachusetts and Florida.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Mulvihill, who held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her brother, Martin Mulvihill, who was always a source of love and support in her life. Together, they shared many memories that will live on in the hearts of their family.
Her life and the people's lives she touched cannot be summed up in just a few paragraphs. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and wisdom that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Please feel free to share your memories and photos so that others, who may have known her for only a short time, can learn about the kind of person she was and the massive hole her absence has left in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to donate.jw.org.
Kathy will be dearly missed, but the impact she had on so many will never be forgotten.
