James Joseph Caldroney

March 18, 1939 - March 12, 2025

James Joseph Caldroney, 85, passed away suddenly at home on March 12, 2025.

James, affectionately known as “Jimmy”, “Poppy” and “Daddy Jimmy” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A Brooklyn native with a heart as big as the city he came from, Jimmy brought warmth and kindness to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Jimmy was the devoted husband of Barbara, the love of his life, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering companionship for 63 years. Together, they built a beautiful family and a home filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished moments.
He was a proud father to his three children – Jay, Steve, and Kim – who each carry forward his legacy of hard work and compassion. His love extended to his five grandchildren all of whom he adored and who brought him endless joy. He spent his summers making memories with his granddaughters, and spent many of his best days watching his grandsons play lacrosse at the IMG Academy, who he was more proud of than he could ever describe.

For over 20 years, Jimmy was a familiar and beloved figure in South Plainfield, where he drove his ice cream truck, "Here Comes Jimmy" bringing smiles to the faces of children and adults alike. His warm personality and easygoing nature made him a treasured part of the community, and many fondly remember the sound of his truck signaling sweet treats and friendly conversation.

Jimmy’s life was defined by his love for family, his commitment to his community, and his ability to make people smile. His humor, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family finds comfort in knowing that Jimmy’s spirit will always be present in the simple joys of life – the sound of an ice cream truck in the summer, the laughter of children, and the enduring love he shared with those closest to him.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Polesinelli) Caldroney; his parents, Joseph and Antoinette (Nicosia) Caldroney, his brother Thomas and his sisters Gracie and Dolores.

Surviving are his son James Caldroney, his daughter Kim Chabok and her husband Robert, and his son Steven Caldroney and his wife Melani; his grandchildren, Connie Walker and her husband Ryan, Nicole Chabok and her partner Anthony, Jenna Chabok and her partner David, George and Christian; along with his great -grandchildren Luca, Luna and Marla, and all of his many loved family members and friends.

A memorial in his honor will be held at a later time.
