Joy Lee Greiner passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 22nd at Largo Medical Hospital in Largo, Florida.
Joy was born on August 4, 1943, to Orville and Olivia (Berget) Sturm in Bristol, South Dakota. In 1947 the family moved to Hancock, Minnesota. There she graduated from Hancock High School in 1961. After graduation, Joy attended beauty school in Fergus Falls, Minnesota which then gave her the opportunity to open up her own beauty shop in Starbuck, Minnesota.
Joy met and later married the love of her life, Lloyd Greiner, on March 21, 1964, at Federated Church in Morris, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Starbuck until moving to South St. Paul and then Inver Grove Heights. This is where they purchased their first home and raised their two daughters, Jody and Shawn.
In 1980 the family moved to Windom, Minnesota and with the girls being older, Joy decided to work part time at the Windom schools in the cafeteria. She felt blessed to be a part of the community there, especially her involvement with the Windom Methodist Church where she participated in Bible studies, women’s groups, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and served on various church committees until they retired, and she was traveling between Minnesota and Florida.
Joy loved to go fishing both at Nest Lake in Spicer, MN and the Missouri River. She enjoyed crafting, camping and spending time outdoors - always marveling at all the beauty that God created. Joy and Lloyd enjoyed spending time traveling between Minnesota and Florida, making great friends wherever they went. But most of all Joy felt most blessed in spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and her great grandchild.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, of 61 years, Lloyd; daughters, Jody (David) Derickson, of Windom, MN, and Shawn (Bob) Seward, of Trinity, FL; grandchildren, Jenna (Greg) Hatfield, of Morganton, NC; Haley (John) Cote, of New Port Richey, FL; Andrew (Maddison) Derickson, of Minneapolis, MN; Rachel Derickson, of Arden Hills, MN and great-grandchild, Sophia Joy Cote; siblings, Faye Greiner, Dean (Gladys) Sturm, Sandy (Richard) Greiner, and in laws, Cindy Sturm, Delores (Ron) Wiese, Joann (Knute) Wevley, Jan Greiner, Pam Greiner, Richard (Sandy) Greiner and many special nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry Sturm; brothers-in-laws Gordy Greiner, Roland Greiner, Ken Greiner; nephews Cory Greiner and Chad Greiner.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 25th at 2:00pm at Windom Methodist Church of Windom, Minnesota. Pastor Tommy Suh will officiate. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service. A private burial service will be held at a later time at Kincaid Cemetery in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Blessed be the memory of Joy Lee Greiner.
