Ronald Jackson Buchanan

December 08, 1946 - March 26, 2025

Ronald Jackson Buchanan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on March 26, 2025 at the age of 78.  Ron was born in St. Louis, MO on December 8, 1946. Ron was the epitome of hard work, dedication and love.

Ron proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His dedication to his country was matched by his lifelong commitment to his community.

Ron was the owner of Sioux Harbor in Portage Des Sioux, MO. The marina was not just his workplace—it was his passion, a gathering place for friends, and a second home to countless boaters.  His deep love for boating was a way of life, one that passed on to those around him. But Ron’s love for the open road was just as strong as his love for the water. He was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed riding with friends in Florida every winter.

He is survived by his children—Amy Scott (Richard), Ron Buchanan (Chris), and Ryan Buchanan (Mindy), as well as his grandchildren, Ricky Scott, Aaron Scott, Jenna Buchanan and Leah Buchanan. He also leaves behind many close friends, fellow riders, and members of the boating community. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie, and his beloved wife, Barb, whom he deeply missed.

Ron’s kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those that knew him. Though he has set sail on his final journey, his spirit will live on in the river’s gentle currents, the roar of a bike on the open road, and the hearts of those who loved him.

A celebration of life in honor of Ron will occur on September 6, 2025.
