Burton John Calloway, 80, was born in 1945. He lived in Illinois with his parents, Claude and Delores Calloway, his sister, Claudia, and his brother, Joe.
Burt graduated from the University of Illinois in Chicago and spent the bulk of his career as a talented Director of Sales in the telecom industry. His work gave him the opportunity to live in many states across the U.S. over his lifetime, but it was California that ultimately stole his heart.
Despite being single for most of his adult life, at 49 he found love on a blind date with a woman 15 years his junior. A year later, at 50—when most men are cheering on their high schoolers at soccer matches—he was blessed with a surprise that changed his life in ways he never could have imagined: a beautiful daughter, who became the great love of his life.
Throughout his life, he had a passion for tennis, golf, swimming, politics, and a good joint. He was also an avid sports fan who could happily spend hours watching football, baseball, golf or basketball—especially when a great game or favorite player was on. He was known for his lively conversations, quick wit, and infectious laughter.
He passed away in October 2025 after a brief and unexpected illness. He was in the state he loved, with his beloved daughter on the phone.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Karen Hoving, and his daughter, Shelby Hoving Calloway. He also leaves behind his sister, Claudia Kalisz (Leo), along with their two children, Brian Kalisz (Racheal) and Gina Putka (Benjamin); his younger brother, Joe Calloway; and many friends and colleagues who remember him with love and affection.
Burt will be remembered for his humor, warmth and generous spirit, and for the joy and humor he brought to those lucky enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
