Arlo Dane Levi 

May 4, 1933 – July 14, 2026

Arlo Dane Levi passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 93 in Rancho Santa Fe, California. 

Arlo was born in Zealand, North Dakota, one of nine children. By his own family's account he was something of a troublemaker in his youth, and not especially sure what he wanted out of school or life — until he found his answer in the sky. He joined the U.S. Air Force and became a pilot, an adventure that took him around the world and gave him a love of flying he carried for the rest of his life. 

After leaving the Air Force he received a B.S. in Engineering at the University of South Dakota in 1963 and Juris Doctor at the University of Michigan in 1965.  He built his career at 3M, where he spent 29 years and became the youngest Corporate Secretary in the company's history — a position he would go on to hold longer than anyone at that time. The job took him across the globe, and the years of world travel that came with it were among the great pleasures of his life. 

Arlo met and married Constance — Connie — and together they built a marriage that lasted almost 65 years. Arlo and Connie spent countless hours over the years working side by side restoring their home on White Bear Lake, a project that, like most things Arlo touched, he simply couldn't leave alone until it was right.  In 1997 the relocated to Rancho Sante Fe, CA. 

He was a devoted father to his son, Todd  and daughter, Julie and adored his granddaughters as only a grandfather could. He was, above all, a great provider, and he showed his love in the steady, practical ways of a man who had grown up with very little and made sure his family never had to. 

Arlo saw the world through rose-colored glasses. He was an incurable prankster and tease, and the owner of a laugh so full and so joyful that it was, quite literally, unmistakable from a mile away. He was also a restlessly curious craftsman — an accomplished woodworker, a stained glass artist, a collector of clowns, and a flier of kites. In addition to being an avid hunter, he spent many happy summers fishing in Canada, and many warm evenings in the hot tub or by the fire with the people he loved best. 

Arlo is survived by his wife, Connie Levi; his two children, Todd Levi of Aurora, IL; Julie Levi (Mark Gergen) of San Diego, CA; his granddaughters, Brianna Levi, of Aurora, IL; Kathleen Roberts (Christian) and Megan Levi (Leif) of San Diego CA; his sisters Caroline Biel of Idaho and Jeanette Havig of Florida and nearly countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews all of whom he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with.  He is preceded in death by brothers Albert, Herbert, Wesley, Howard and Don; sister Violet Bauer and granddaughter Marissa Levi. 

A service celebrating Arlo's life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Silver Lining Cremation and Burial, 421 S Andreasen Dr, Ste B, Escondido, CA 92029. Family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend.
