Jackie Vargas
A woman of unwavering faith, immense strength, and boundless devotion to her family, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026 surrounded by family and friends. She was 89 years old.
Born on March 29, 1937, in Puerto Rico, Maria took a courageous leap of faith at just 18 years old, moving to the U.S. mainland without knowing a word of English. Guided by her profound Catholic faith and a fierce work ethic, she overcame the hardships of poverty and the challenges of being a single mother to build a beautiful life for her family. Her life was defined by selflessness; she sacrificed everything to ensure her children had opportunities she never had.
Her greatest pride and joy was her family. As a single mother, she beat every mathematical and societal statistic, successfully raising five children who attended college, and became accomplished professionals: Evelyn Judith, a Physician’s Assistant; Paul Anthony, a military serviceman; Jacqueline Marie, a Business Planning Manager, Luis Javier (Pilar), an Attorney; and Milagros Teresa, a Registered Nurse/Retired Nurse Corps Officer. She also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren, who brought endless light and joy to her life. This profound legacy of education, hard work, and success lives on in her cherished grandchildren—Alyssa, Chloe, Ella, Miles and Isabella—whom she adored completely and was immensely proud of.
She is survived by her loving children: Evelyn Judith of New York; Paul Anthony of Puerto Rico; Jacqueline Marie of San Diego, CA, Milagros Teresa of Murrieta, CA; and Luis Javier of Guilford, CT. She also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren, who brought endless light and joy to her life.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of endurance, love, and prayer. Her family takes comfort in knowing she has returned home to the Lord she served so faithfully throughout her life.
